Pick21 app good for
When Baloonia came out, I knew we had been blessed with a very special developer - only to find out, these guys at JVL have had a ton of touch screen programming experience!
Just go to a local bar and you just may see one of their machines on the...well, the bar I guess. They look like little televisions (if I remember right, havent been to a bar in a while)
Anyhow, Their games have a ton of polish. Like this one:
- PROS -
- Incredible sound effects and quality
- Amazing graphics
- Very clean and uncluttered interface
- Clean and accurate gameplay
- Game runs great
- CONS -
- No music (not that big of a deal, its a card game)
- No different content (different decks, tables, etc)
Other than that, I have no complaints. I am giving it 5 stars, which is made up of a combo of the positives AND the low price.
Now hurry up and release more games!!!
I agree with the first review.
Everything about this game is top-notch: graphics, sound, interface and gameplay.
It also works in both landscape orientations which is always handy.
Its perfect and the price is more than fair for such high quality game!
I love this bar top game at the clubs, now I can play it when I want wherever I am.
JVL simply nailed every nuance of this classic bar game. The graphics, sound, interface are all superb. Happy to see this development team taking our enjoyment so seriously. Reward yourself by adding this 1st Class app to your collection. Reward JVL by leaving your honest feedback and ensuring youve verified the star rating at the top of your review accurately reflects your intended rating before sending. At the risk of this sounding suspiciously gushing, its my only 5 star review to date (out of 50+), and I am in no way affiliated with these folks, just damn glad to find an app that actually exceeds expectations.
Ive always loved the BlackJackey add-your-cards-up-to-21 games, and this is a marked improvement over BlackJack Run and BlackJack Run Lite (which I can now delete with a good conscience).
But as always, I have some minor nits that give pause to a 5-star rating:
1. Display name is "Pick21" whereas the app name (both from an iTunes store perspective and within the app itself) is "Pick21" - stop being sloppy! There is enough slop in the app store!
2. No soundtrack, which could spice up an otherwise "eh" game experience.
3. JVLs apps so far, at least the two that Ive purchased, seem to lack the polish and fit-and-finish of the Megatouch iPhone games (although I trashed Megatouch for other reasons - please read my review for Monkey Bash and youll see what I mean).
Still, a good start! Im personally hoping for some trivia games. And the Price Is Right!
this game is an excellent example of the best type of pick up and play type app. nice graphics, good gameplay and addicting. i wish there were more games in the app store with this kind a quality. keep it up JVL, cant wait to see what you come out with next!
Some bad moments
As best as I can tell, the app store is still wide open for a great Run 21 game. If you know otherwise, please post here.
This game has fabulous graphics and delivers what it promises in gameplay. But it is absolutely blown away by Target 21, which Midway placed in the first Touchmaster for the Nintendo DS. (Inexplicably, Midway has not released Target 21 for iPhone).
What makes Target 21 so much better?
1) Bonus rounds. If you hit five 21s you get a huge point bonus and an extra round--repeat the feat in the bonus round and you get yet another bonus round. Same for five 21s and one 20, though fewer bonus points. This feature has been around for years and its absence here is a dealbreaker.
2) THREE pass cards instead of one. It adds immeasurably to the strategy.
These features make DS Target 21 a fundamentally different, more involving, lengthier, and more fun game. Iphone developers of these quick, bar-style games make the cardinal sin of forgetting that they are not out quarters because we gamers are playing a little longer on our iPhones. Ibeer notwithstanding, the iphone is not a bar.
Is there a better Run 21 in apps that Ive missed?
